Period 5 Blog # 9 Volleyball

There are two basic types of knowledge we want you come away with.

The first is about game knowledge, which are the rules and proceedures that make games work, such as starting and restarting play, boundries, and violations. The second is in game knowledge, these include the skills and movements related to game play.

In class we will be working on in game knowledge. For your blog, I want you to take care of the about game knowledge and write one rule or proceedure that makes a game of voleyball work. The rules of volleyball change constantly so make sure your rules are up to date.

I think that in order to make volleyball work, we should follow the standard volleyball rules and have judges calling ins and outs to prevent line disputes

one rule is that you can't touch the net. Another rule is that you can't hit the ball two times in a row.

First!

One rule is that the team has to get the ball over the net after 3 touches. This prevents hogging the ball and makes sure that the game keeps going.

A team must get the ball over the net within three hits with no one hitting it more than once.

To ensure the game remains functional we should use the designated volleyball rules we have been playing with. Based on what I have been witness to, teams consistently dispute whether the ball is in or out. To solve this There should be court boundaries marked out with removable masking tape. And, if possible, a ref that CARES about the game.

For our games of volleyball to work we need to know the basic rules of volleyball. First we should concentrate on getting the ball over from one side to another (each team should try to hit ball no more then 3 times so that the no team is hogging the ball. Once we can do that we should start to work on rotations and other volleyball techniques.

there are a few important things in volleyball,

1.the person must use a legal hit bump, set, spike
2. the ball can only be hit 3 times on one side
3. the ball should stay in the boundaries

Anonymous said...

we need to have someone judge if the ball is in or out so no one has the chance to argue over it and to have the 3 hit then over to keep the game going.

2. Player may not hit the ball twice in succession ( A block is not considered a hit ).

3. Ball may be played off the net during a volley and on serve.

4. A ball touching a boundary line is good.

5. A legal hit is contact with the ball by a player body above and including the waist which does not allow the ball to visibly come to a rest.

An example of a rule of volleyball during game-play is that the server cant pass it to someone on their team for them to spike it on the other team's side. I've seen this happen a couple of times and its annoying cuz it delays gameplay.

In order for our volleyball games to work properly, certain basic rules such as no consecutive hits made by one person and no carrying the ball (an attempt at setting a ball that is below the shoulders) must be followed.

6 players on court.
1st team to 25 points wins.

Positions
Of the 6 players 3 are to the front and 3 to the back, with the back player at the left being the server.

Serving
Serve from behind the back line.
The serve must to be hit with the hand.
After serving the server moves back onto court to help their team.
The serve is allowed to clip the net on the way over, but must not touch the antenna nor pass over or outside the antenna.
Once the ball has been served ANY player can move ANYWHERE on court and even chase the ball out of court if needed.
If the serve is going out leave it to hit the floor - if you touch it before it lands then you must play the ball back.
The serve is not allowed to touch the roof.

[Continued]

Hitting the ball
The ball can be hit with any part of the body (hand, head, chest, even the foot! . . .) with the exception of the serve which must to be hit with the hand.
The hit has to be clean - no scoops, catch-and-rethrows, dunks etc.
Your team have up to 3 touches to return the ball over the net - although it can be returned by the 1st or 2nd touch.
A player can't have 2 consecutive hits - but hitting it 1st and 3rd is OK.

In the rally
Players can't touch the net.
The only part of a players body that is allowed to land on the opponents court is the foot, and then only if part of it is above the centre line.
The ball can't touch the roof, walls or posts.
The ball CAN touch the net on the way over providing it does not touch the antenna.
The ball is allowed to go into the net and bounce out - the rally continues and this does not count as one of the 3 touches.
If the ball touches the court floor on the opposite side you win the point.
If the ball touches one of the opposition players and then the floor/wall you win a point.
If one of your players hits the ball out of court, the others can chase the ball and hit it back into court or over the net.
If the other team hits the ball more than 3 times you win a point.

No player should hit the ball two consecutive times in a row or more. This keeps individual players from ball hogging and allows other teammates to be able to hit the ball.

in order for volleyball to work we need to follow the game rules and know the basic skillz. A couple rules are:
-cant hit a ball twice
-no more than 3 hits before it goes over the net
-only overhand or underhand when you serve
-you cant set on a serve

Anonymous said...

One important rule of volleyball is that the server only gets a certain number of chances to get the ball over. If they got as many tries as they needed, the game would be never-ending.

Many rules must be followed to ensure a successful volleyball game.
-Beginning with the serve...underhand or overhand, stand behind that line thing to serve
-Calling outs-if the ball goes beyond the boundry line thennnnn its out
-using correct volleyball hits(?) dig/bump/underhand/whatever thats called, setting, spiking..serving correctly
-three hits per side no double hits (same person hitting twice in a row)
-no touching net
-no grabbing ball, catching ball....kicking ball.....etc....etc.

any other official rules
