What are the two kinds of defense that you can have in an invasion game?

You can have a person to person defense. That is when everyone on your team has to mark up a person. The other defense is a zone defense. That is when you have to guard a zone and when people come into your zone then they are your mark. In a zone defense you mark anyone in your area.

What should the player thats receiving the ball from a serve try to do?

-The player receiving the ball should try to hit it up instead of over so that other players of the team can hit the ball over in a more effective way. One player can set the ball and then allow another player to spike. The other team will then have a harder time hitting it back.

What are some necessary skills/tactics in invasion games?

-Mantaining possesion of the ball--this includes passing the ball to teammates, keeping the ball away from the opposing team.
-Defending the goal....self explanitory...dont let the opposing team score.
-Scoring...again pretty obvious...score against the other team.

Q. What are the two types of defense you can use in Basketball? Explain.

A. The first type is man to man where one person on defense marks one prson on offense the whole time. The second type is zone defense where the defensive players have zones. If an offenzive player come into your set zone, then it is your responsibility to mark them. Man to Man defense is more tiring while zone defense is easier and less energy consuming.

Why is Volleyball different than any other sports we've played.

Volleyball is different due to space restrictions and limitations. In the game of volleyball, players on the field are not free to move everywhere, they must stay within their team's own field. It is not like the invasion games where one must create space to get the ball or score points by bringing the ball to a certain goal. Instead points are gained by the other team's wrongdoings.

What techniques should you use to play volleyball?

In volleyball, when you just hit the ball like in a serve the other team that is recieving the ball should try to bump, set, and spike it. That way it doesn't turn into ghetto ball. Also, when serving throw the ball straight up in front of you, bend your back and hit it with a flat surface. In volleyball you always want to hit the ball with a flat surfaceunless setting it in which you want to hit it like a triangle with your finger tips.

What are the main skills needed in basketball?

Dribbling, passing and shooting. These skills are needed for many invasion games because they help the player maintain possession of the ball, make space and attack the basket. Defense is also needed to keep the other team from scoring.

What are the two ways to serve that we have learned so far and how can mistakes be made in them?

We have learned overhand and underhand serves. Overhand serves are thrown in the air and hit with the palm. If the hand is in a fist, it is more difficult to control the ball. If the ball is hit with the fingers, one may instinctively grab the ball. Underhand serves are when the ball is held in one hand and hit out by the other. If the ball is dropped, it is harder to control.

Name the three most popular ways of returning a volleyball we have seen demonstrated or been told about by the university of Maryland players

Bump, set or backcourt attack which essentially is a dig under the ball which gives it topspin.

Why is man to man defense harder than zone defense?

Man to man defense requires a lot of running, while zone defense just requires you to stay with the person in your area. This is why zone is generally used in soccer and football, since the players cannot exert that much energy without hyperventilating (maybe except for Derek). This uses up energy that could be better spent on offense.

What are some skills you need in invasion games???????????

The main idea for invasion games are to attack the oppsosing team's goal. This requires moving around doing things to get open not standing around doing nothing. You need to be able to defend your own goal as well. Make it hard for the opposing to score. Also you need to be able to score like in baseketball if you dont have the ball set screens to the ball handler or move around and create open space.

What are a few ways to hit a volleyball?

1) Set

2) Bump

3) Spike

Using these three ways to hit a volleyball, there is a great chance that the game will run smoothly and it will not turn into "Ghetto Ball"

What skills are used that will apply to all invasion games to make your team more successful in game situations?

1. Maintaining possession of the ball. This is done by creating space, moving to open passing lanes, and communicating with your teammates.

2. Defending the goal/basket. This can be done by either zone or person to person defense.

3. Attacking the goal and being able to score points. This goes with maintaining possession of the ball and being able to avoid the defensive players.

Ideally, what is the order of the types of legal volleyball hits made before the ball is hit over the net by the receiving team?

IDEALLY, the ball is served by the opposing team's server, bumped by one of the receiving team's members in the back postions, set by a member in one of the front positions, and spiked by another player in the front (a player must not hit the ball more than once in a row). This might not always be the case, as this only applies in ideal situations as I have stressed, but one should try to adhere to these rules.
Cheers.
