I came across the following quote and it made me think of 7th period
Acquiring the spirit necessary to win, which includes a positive acceptance of pain is difficult in a society where comfort is more highly regarded than capacity, where genuine physical fitness is the norm for less than 15% of the population. A visit to any normal gym that is open to the public offers an idea of what modern society thinks it means to be fit; magazines are read while "running" or "biking," weights are lifted by isolated muscles, often in a seated position, intensity is distinctly lacking, and "aerobics" classes are nothing more than jumping jacks set to music. Modern fitness is defined by appearance rather than actual horsepower. A training environment contaminated by this attitude cannot produce superior fitness, physical or mental. Mark Twight

This qoute strikes me as very real interpretation of modern fitness in present day terms. Fitness has become more of a fad and in some cases a hassle. People try to find ways that will be excuses for them when they are asked the question of wether or not they exercise. In todays world training the body is not a way to reach goals but merely a way to achieve hopless aspirations. The thing that motivates me the most is my peers. When I see someone i consider myself equal to or at least formerly did in terms of strength lifting more than me, it drives me. In other words i believe competition is my biggest motivator as long as it is healthy and doesn't involve someone reaching beyond their limits.I signed up for this class so i could gain an edge on my competiton in both the sports of lacrosse and football. Not only will it make me physically stronger but mentally as well. My effort level although injured I know needs to increase. I have found that results only occur in the presence of hard work. My goal from now on is to leave the weight room spent and exhausted every day. If not that then at least know I made the most of the 45 minutes I had in there.

This quote to me means that physical fitness is becoming the "in vogue" thing to do for Americans, rather than doing it with the concrete idea of some physical goal. Motivation to me during weightlifting comes from different sources. Sometimes it's my music, other times it's me competing against myself, other times it's to best other people in the class, and other times it's the pure thought of football conditioning. I signed up for this class atleast at the base level to maintain my core strength and power for football, and to gain as well. Going forward, I will keep my effort level in the completion of all sets, as I continue to improve my form.

This quote means to me that the meaning of intensity has diminished and comfort has grown among people. We see people trying to escape the reality of hard work by distancing them selves from what they are doing , and doing things differently but makes no difference other than it may seem more enjoyable. The thing that motivates me the most is my need to improve and get better in what ever I am doing, another thing that motivates me are my teammates, who I do not want to let down by slacking. I switched into this class to improve my strength, and to get better knowledge and form in lifting weights, and also to get a head start in lifting weight for football conditioning, and get in shape for other sports I play. My effort level going forward is to improve in all aspects of weight lifting such as form and weight, and to push my self to new limits.

To me this quote is absoluly true. The fact that genuine phisical phitness is the norm for ess than 15% of our population is almost frightening. In todays society where obesity is devistating the world one must think to onesself, what is wrong and how is it affecting me? To me, football and my drive to be as good as i possibly can motivates me. Football is the main reason i signed up for tis class. So i can now stay ahead if my competators pyisically. Up to this point my attitude in the class has been very relaxed but i now realize what i can achieve, so i am tying harder.

This Quote to me means that there are many different ways of excercising but lifting weights and training different muscle groups is really how you accomplish working out. I get motivated all the time whenever I see one of my peers lifting a weight that is higher than mine I will push myself and set a goal to either get at that weight that their doing or exceed their weight. I signed up for this class so that I could stay in good shape and get results. My goal is to walk into the weight room with a goal that i have set. when I walk out of the weight room I already have another goal set for the next time I show up to lift. - Zach Latter
To me, the quote means that nowadays the goal of true physical fitness has been replaced with the goal being the workout itself, that people would now rather say "I work out" rather than "I am physically fit." "Working out" has become a social/timekilling activity with no goal other than working out itself. What motivates me is the goal of physical fitness itself and the benefit of being more capable. I signed up for this class to acquire more knowledge about the lifting techniques themselves and develop the skills necessary to train my body in the most efficient way. Going forward, I'm hoping my effort level will be 100% on every exercise I do so that I won't only be wasting time & effort but will be working towards bettering myself
"working towards bettering myself"
that was me Victor Peng haha sorry I forgot to sign my name
working out has become more about what you look like and how attractive you look not about how strong you are. This is especially apparent when people get older. When someone is playing sports they should care about how strong fast you are not what you look like.
once people stop playing sports and get out of this stage they focus on more what they look like.
