Period 3 Blog #7 Weight Training Metabolic Pathways

There are three biochemical means in which energy is provided for all human action. They are phosphagen, glycolytic, and oxidative. In other words your body gets energy in three ways depending on the demands of the activity you are participating in. We call these energy sources metabolic pathways. Wether you realize it or not we have been training in all three.

The phosphagen pathway provides the bulk of energy used in high powered activities, those that last less than ten seconds.

The glycotic pathway provides energy for activities that last up to several minutes.

The oxidative pathway provides energy for low-powered activities, those that last in excess of several minutes.

There are a lot of complex process that go into energy production and we will skim across that in future blogs but, for this blog I want you to give me an example of an activity for each of the metabolic pathways listed above.

phosphagen pathway-That excersize we did when we went all out for 20 seconds then stopped for 10.
glycotic pathway-tennis. you go for like a minuete then you lose the ball and stop for a little bit.
oxidative pathway-ultimate frisbee. you just keep moving whether your throwing or jogging or running or just walking.

The oxidative pathway provides energy for low-powered activities, those that last in excess of several minutes; Slow paced weight lifting.

The phosphagen pathway provides the bulk of energy used in high powered activities; Can't think of an example, I guess anything involving mass amounts of adrenaline, like flipping a sedan over or things of that sort.

By the way you spelled whether wrong.

Phosphogen - powerful baseball swing.
Glycotic - running a mile.
oxidative - walking long distances.

Phosphogen - heavy lifting, less reps
Glycotic - light weight, a lot of reps weight lifting
oxidative - runnig long distance

phosphagen pathway: exercises such as the wrkout for ten seconds and rest for 5 seconds
glycotic pathway:exercises such as the 100 rep press
oxidative pathway: exercises such as the run a 1/4 mile and then do 50 reps of superman and crunches

Phosphagen pathway: An example would be when we do TABATA. or sprinting 30 yds
Glycotic pathway: Jogging for several minutes
Oxidative pathway: Ultimate frisbee is light and lasts a while

Phosphagen pathway- Doing as much pull ups as you can in ten seconds.

Glycotic pathway- Running two miles.

Oxidative pathway -walking throughout the whole day.

glycotic pathway- running long distances such as the mile and doing many reps weight lifting
