Period 2 P.E. Blog #3 Striking and Fielding

Blog Due: Monday September 15, 2008

Athletes,

We are starting a Stiking and Fielding after track and field. A Striking and Fielding sport is one in which one team is an offensive team and is stiking an object towards a defensive team which is fielding the ball. The offensive team stays offensive and defensive team stays defensive until a switch occurs such as the middle or end of the inning.

In order to better understand the concepts being explained in class, please take a moment and define 3 of the following terms:

Pop Fly
Foul
Force Out
Walk
Double Play
Triple Play
Fielders Choice
Infield Fly Rule (extra credit)
Cutoff Man
Relay
Backing up a Base
Sacrifice
Tagging Up
Rundown
1st and 3rd base coach
Ground Rule Double
Out Of Play
Stealing
Leading
Bunting

A walk is when the pitcher throws four balls, or pitches that go outside the strike zone. the batter gets to go to first base free. Foul is when the batter hits a ball out the sides in to an unfieldable area, out of bounds. the first two times it happens the batter gets a strike, but the third and fourth and etc times nothing happens. leading is when a player who is on base steps off and goes closer to the next base. this can be done in anticipation of a hit ot to get ready to steal (run to the next base without getting caught).

bunting: when a player taps the ball with the bat lightly

cutoff man: a fielder who "cuts off" (or moves into a position between the outfielder and the base where a play can be made) a long throw to an important target.

double play: When a team gets two outs, double play is by the defense where two offensive players are put out.

YAY SOFTBALL! Sorry im really bad at explaining things but i will try (:
Walk-if the ball hits the person or 4 balls are thrown
Tagging Up- ex. pop fly- wait to see if the outfielder catches the ball or not. if they do, then stay at the base. if they don't, run.
Leading-take a step or two off the base
Bunting-not really swinging at the ball but almost just tapping it

pop fly: a ball thrown or usually hit very hit up into the air and its moves in a arch shape
walk: when the pitcher throws 4 balls then the batter can just "walk" to 1st base
foul: is when the ball is hit out of bounds
Infield Fly Rule:prevents a defensive team from purposely dropping or not catching an infield fly so they could turn it into a double play.

Johnny,
The blogs are posted every Monday, Honesty is the best policy, but keep it clean. The school will not be overwhelming for long.

Bunting - a light swing, almost like tapping the ball.

Force out- when the runner has to get to the next base so the next runner will have a base to run to

Infield fly Rule-fly ball is hit and can be caught infield and runners are other bases and less than two outs.
The batter is called out whether the ball is caught or dropped.

hi this is Casey Dowling
Sorry i haven't been doing well at the first few blogs...my edline account hates me.

Pop Fly-a high fly ball hit to the infield or immediately beyond it that can easily be caught before reaching the ground.

Tagging Up-retouch or remain on the runner's time-of-pitch base until (after) the ball is first touched by a fielder

Force out-a putout of a base runner who is required to run; the putout is accomplished by holding the ball while touching the base to which the runner must advance before the runner reaches that base

I'll be sure to keep up with tha blogging action in the semester :D

first and foremost--- extra credit! Infeild fly rule is when you hit a fly ball to the infeild and there is a man on first, you automaticly are out. This is because the infeilder could instead of chacting you out porposfuly drop the ball to go for the double play.
Cuttoff man is a secondbaseman or shortstop who goes to the outfeild if it was hit hard to rellay the through to second, third, or home.
A bunt is a type of hit usually down the first or third base line that you just slide your dominate hand up the bat to have more control over it and don't swing the bat just deflect the hit softly as you run fast so you don't get out.

1. Bunting is a way to hit a ball in which it is little or unexpected by defense team, because the batter intentionally hits a ball weakly in order to make the ball travel little.

2. Force out is a way to get runners out that is done by a defense team by touching the base that runner need to reach in order to stay in, before the runner reaches the base because a another runner might be on the base behind the runner who might get out or may be because there is no other base behind him.

3. Foul is when a batter hits the ball, but the ball goes out on to foul territory. The batter has only 3 chances of fouling the ball or he will be out.

Foul - A foul occurs when a ball lands out of bounds, outside of the lines.
Double Play - When two outs occur during one play, it's called a double play.
Bunting - When a player bunts the ball, it will only go a small distance, and they don't swing, they just touch it with the bat.

A foul is when a ball is hit outside of the foul/base lines. A walk happens when the picher pitches four balls outside the strike zone. The batter automatically gets to go to first base. A force out is when a runner is on firts base and the batter hits a ball to the short stop. If the the short stop throws the ball to second base before the runner gets there he is "forced out".

Force Out - when the runner has to advance to the next base to make room for the following base runner.

Walk - an automatic advance to first base for the batter after the pitches throws four balls as called by the umpire based on the fact that they are outside the strike zone.

Bunting - an attempt by the batter to tap the ball instead of swinging at it. (the bat is lowered to about chest high and is parallel to the ground).

Infield Fly Rule: A rule intended to prevent unfair gamesmanship by the fielders that would result in an easy double play or triple play.

Bunting: To bat by tapping it lightly so that the ball rolls slowly in front of the infielders.

Pop Fly: a high fly ball hit to the infield or immediately beyond it that can easily be caught before reaching the ground.

"WALK An award given to the batter after the pitcher delivers 4 balls. If a hitter receives 4 balls during an at bat, they automatically advance to first base. Any forced base runners also advance. Also called base on balls. "

"FOUL BALL A ball that lands outside the first or third base foul lines. "

"FORCE OUT An out created when a runner is forced to advance because there is another runner behind them, although they will be thrown or tagged out. The defensive player needs only to touch the base being approached by the runner with the ball in hand to record the out. "

bunt-when you slide your hand up the bat to hit the ball and let it go a short distance intended so nobody can get you out

pop fly-a ball that goes high, not far, maybe intended or not. usually not. most people like to hit far but these are harder to catch

walk-when the pitcher throws 4 balls (balls refer balls thrown in the "out of batting bounds") and the batter gets to walk to first base.

1st and 3rd base coach- coach that stands at those bases and helps out the runners, tells them whether they should try for home, etc.
Sacrafice- ex. a sac fly is when the batter hits a fly, but the runner at 3rd tags up and scores- he sacraficed an out, but he also got an rbi and allowed a runner to score.
Walk- 4 balls=1 walk= first base

Luke moon -
Walk- happens when the pitcher has thrown four "balls"

Force out- happens when the offensive player HAS to move on to the next base and if they fail to make it its a force out

Foul- happens when the ball is struck by the player but fails to land in the line.

Hi, I dont remember answering this one, and it might be to late to but whatever.

walk- is when the pitcher either throws a bunch of bad pitches or hits you with the ball then you can walk to the base.

bunting- is when you bearly hit the ball

&

stealing- is when the pitcher isn't looking and you go the the next base when your not supposed to be running.
