Period 3 Weight Training Your Thoughts

I was trying to come up with a blog topic this week and I'm struggling. Not because there is a lack of info but because there is so much. I want to give you a chance to steer the blog and ask any questions that you have up to this point. What are you curious about? What do you want to work on? What workouts or exercises do you like/hate? What imporvements can we make to the class? This is a graded summative assessment so make sure you pipe in.

I just have a few comments.

Metcons are annoying to be honest but I do see the purpose in them.

The 45 minute period isn't quite long enough for workouts sometimes as changing and warming up sometimes take 20 minutes out of the block. This leaves only 25 minutes or less for the major lifts.

Sometimes doing lifts such as deadlifts with heavy weights causes major strain in my back even though I believe I am using proper form. Could this be because I in fact have a week core? If so, what can I do to strengthen this while in-season for wrestling? I'm guessing there isn't much to do because it will get aggravated every day during practice and while strengthening it.

Lastly, I like that the gear of the class is focused on functional strength. Most of the people at gyms will do isolation exercises which frankly are no where near as beneficial. Not even as aesthetically enhancing because they do not generate even near the same hormonal release and therefore do not cause the body to repair near to the level in which complex movements do.

I am curious, what is the best lift/exercise to increase your general stamina and endurance? I want to work on getting a huge arms, and becoming more flexible in the hamstrings. I like doing bench press, and I hate squats. Improvements we can make to the class are that we should work more on biceps/triceps, and learn more core exercises.

I am curious about and would also like to work on excersies that improve explosiveness and speed. However, except for power cleans and a few others, i do not know many excersises of that sort. Focusing on these excersises will help myself and everyone else in the class to excel in their respective sports and activeness.

In general, i really like this class. For the purpose of working out, it has great value to me. What i really want to focus and work on is squatting and lower body. I i want to improve my speed, endurance and fatigue. I like the metcons. They are very helpful. I like that most of the metcons we do use pretty much every part of the body and work most muscles. For me looking to build up my endurance, i want to continue doing metcons and possibly back to twice a week. To improve the class, we shouldn't make the rep workouts so independent. As in, to make it a little more organized from the teacher.

I think we should work more on lifts such as cleans and dead lifts because they are the real power lifts.

Also, i think we need to spend more time on form and less time on trying to do as many reps as possible. More reps less weight.

I feel one 45 minute period is not enough time to really get everything in. However when is there ever enough time in the day?

As much as I hate doing metcons, like Jack said I do see the purpose in them. However I think I would like to try to focus more on lifts.

Other than the class time and metcons I don't really have any complaints or questions.

I just have a few comments-

First off, people should probably wash their hands after they work out. That equipment's pretty dirty from so many people touching it. Washing your hands will keep you from getting sick.
Also, we should get a punching bag for the weight room, mostly for fun but also to get some aerobic exercise.

The main thing i am always wondering is exactly what muscles are being worked by each workout. Though i agree i don't really like the metcons i know that they are helping with endurance and over all performance and that they are worth it.

I agree with Steven and I like the metcons because i feel them the most.
Again, 45 minutes isn't much but we do our best.
I like the coarse of the class the way we do many functional useful lifts and learn about proper form and doing things right. Doing things right is definatley the most important part of working out..
