What are the roles and responsibilites of the Ref Squad and how can they be graded fairly by the participating teams? Do you like the role of referee? Explain why or why not
It is very important to consider the situation after a game. Usually, a team feels there has been a bad call. The grading of the refs needs to be such that, even if a team is unhappy about a call they can still give the points fairly. Refs should not be penalized for making a tough call.

The roles and responsibilities for the refs are to call outs, fouls, and various other rules that are broken. They also have to retrieve the ball from out of bounds. I don't like the role of the referee because they could make biased decisions if a friend is on one of the teams. Also the referees need to enforce the rules more than they have been, because sometimes the teams playing make a call and that shouldn't be followed because it is the refs call.
A way to keep the refs from being penalized is to have at least 3 refs agree on the call so that the teams playing cannot complain about it being a bad call.
refs jobs is to call things like fals and hand ball and to go get the ball when it goes out. in addition to calling the penalty, they need to stop the game instead of just yelling it out. as long as the refs are calling a few things a game its fine. the refs job isnt to please the teams because their is always something that the other team will think is unfair. the refs should just do their job by calling things and not care what the other team does.

Hey guys!
I'm not blogging yet (so this is not my answer to the question)...but I just wanted to say that in the picture of our class besides my red shirt...and Erica no one made a funny face or did anything funny..wasn't this the funny picture?!

the ref's job is to call fouls outs and handballs, and they are. but they arent doing anything about it, therefore the role of the ref is pointless. and sumtimes they are currupted too, if they likea team better, they wont call things or stop the game to do the things. This is why it is unfair for some of the teams.

The roles and responsibilities of refs are to make sure the game is played fair and call the outs or ules tha were broken. I somewhat don't like the ref position because of the critisizm that a raf recieves for a bad call or not calling something.
Also, when the fouls or outs are called, no one listens to the refs and everyone continues playing, so there is no use in calling anything.
the refs also need to be able to stop the game and have the teams check it up or do a jump/drop ball if necessary
The roles and responsibilities of the refs are to keep the ball in play and to call fouls and be able to stop the game if there are any fouls. They can be graded fairly by trying to call as many of the penalties as they can. It's not there fault if they didn't call 1 hand ball. I think the other team has to feel like the refs are trying. I personally hate being a ref because if you don't call one or two fouls there like what was that, that was a hand ball and they give so much blame to the refs that they give them no points at all or a really low amount because they forgot 1 or 2 calls.

The roles and responsibilities of the refs are to make the right calls, and keep the ball in play (or from going out of bounds). If the refs call something, they need to enforce it instead of letting the game go on, making it unfair. They need to call not only handballs (the obvious stuff) but the fouls, outs, and offsides as well. Reffing is fun becausae you can watch the game and rest before your next game, but you still have to do your job.
The refs job is to call hand balls, off sides, fouls and which team gets the ball when it is kicked out. They can be graded fairly if they actually call anything and if they are paying attention and alert to what is happening in the game. I do not like the role of the refs because the teams that you ref for grade you very harshly and they dont know if you really did a good job or not.

Refs are responsible for enforcing basic rules, such as outs, fouls, ect... Teams credited with these responsibilities often don't care enough to call and overlook the most visible errors in games. I'm sure we have all see this happen or took part in it. The best idea seems to be eliminating ref duty and having the teams playing call. Its simple enough.

The refs are responsible for calling fouls, outs and hand balls. The refs can be graded fairly by the teams if they have tried to keep the ball in and called all of the obvious fouls and hand balls. I don't like the role of referee because one team usually thinks the call is bad. People on the teams shouldn't be mad at the refs for making a call.
The roles of the refs are to call outs, fouls and other rules that apply to the sport, such as handballs in soccer. They must also enforce their calls however and make sure they are correct calls and not biased. We can grade them fairly based on if they make the correct calls and can enforce them. Sometimes I like the role of the ref, and sometimes I don't. Most of the time they do a fair job, but other times refs can be biased towards a team or sometimes just dont enforce the calls.

the roles and responsibillities of the ref squad is to make calls if a bad move is made and call shots and keep score. The referee can be graded by the teacher because he knows best if they are making correct calls. I do not like the role of the referee because usually teams like to give the referees low scores so they wont win the tournament and not alot of the referees usually call bad shots or outs etc.
The roles and responsibilities of a ref are to call fouls and make sure people play fairly. They are an imparital judge and prevent fights on the court. In soccer, a ref needs to keep the ball in play and retreive it if it goes out of bounds. I dont like being ref because people get mad at the ref when they need to make a tough call

haha Nina i realized that too! Our class is no fun. Now for my answer...
The major thing the Ref Squad can do is return the ball to the game. It takes alot of time out of our game to go and get the ball ourselves. We also need them to call fouls because it can cause conflict if the teams are disagreeing about it. And they need to actually watch the game closely and call things when they really happen, not when they think they saw something.

I think the referee job is very important. The game needs a referee.
Most referees are really fair, but some are not as fair.
The referee's job is to make the calls, and say when there is a foul.
The ref squad's role is to insure a fair game play and allow teams to go against each other with the rules enforced. Participating teams can fairly grade refs by wether or not they felt all the appropriate calls were made and that the refs didn't let any thing slide. I like the role of ref because it is fun calling fouls.
Most losing teams say the refs were bad simply because they lost, this could however be the result of bad foul calls and no enforcing of the rules, so the losing team should always back up their reasons.
The referees' responsibilities are to call fouls and outs and to retrieve the puck when it goes out of bounds. If they follow their responsibilities, they can avoid getting an unfair grade. The players must also set their personal prejudices aside and not grade the referees unfairly even if one of them is his worst nemesis (i.e., if Harry Potter was playing and Lord Voldemort was refereeing, Harry should grade him based on his abilities as a referee, not because his nose is ugly and he killed Harry's parents).
I personally cannot stand the role of referee because if a team doesn't want another to get more points, that team will give the referees low score under the guise that their referee skills were awful.
Cheers.

i also this that when you ask what grade the refs should get, some of the teams say 1 or 0 not because of the refs but because they lost. I think that is not fair because their is not always about the refs.

The refs job is to call fouls and outs, retrieve balls that have gone out, and keep score. I don't particularly care for the role of referee because they may make calls based on relationships to players on other teams and they might not neccesarily see all of the things requiring a call. One way to keep the refs from being penalized is to have a majority of them agree on a call.
Joey Lima
The refs jobs are to call fouls, keep score and keep the ball in play and not let it fly around the room. On the subject of fouls when the ref calls a foul they should stop/slow down play for the call. I don't like being the ref because the loseing team sometimes takes points for loseing if they think the ref were why they lost.

The ref squad can be graded fairly by getting points based on the number of good calls they make over the total fouls. The closer the ratio is to one the higher the score for the refs. I do not like the role of referee because the participating teams usually take offense and deduct points for making a call against them. Another challenge of being referee is that some of the players are very stubborn and will not yield to a ref's call. The refs cannot really enforce their call without greatly disrupting gameplay, so most of the time the unyielding team gets their way.
Sam Halem
The refs should be calling outs, fouls, and other rules that are broken. I don't think the refs do a very good job of that that should pay more attention to the game instead of just sitting on the sideline and have one person ref.
Michael May
the roles of the the refs are to call out the fouls and other rules that people have broken. The responsiblities of the refs are to get the punk/ball if it goes out of bounds. I dont like the role of ref because sometimes the players in the game dont listen to you then if you make a call that they dont like they start complaining its really anoyying.
the refs need to call out all fouls. they also need to pay attention when the puck goes out. I dont like the role of referee because they can make any calls they want and if they dont like a person on a team they can call a foul on them.
A way the refs can improve is that all of them should stand on the court not the sidelines and pay attention to the game and not worrying about sitting down the fastest with your team.
Sherry Liu
The role of the refs is to call fouls, outs, and and other rules that have been broken based on the sport. Their responsibilities are to hand out fair penalties, overcome possible biases towards certain teams, and enforce the calls they make. Oftentimes, the refs will make a call, but not enforce it, and later, suffer the accusations of the fouled team. For refs to be graded fairly by participating teams, more than half of the refs should agree on the call to confirm that it was not biased.
Personally, i do not like the role of referee because the losing team usually hands out low scores because they think that refs did not call things that could have changed the outcome of the game. Also, as important as reffing is, it nevertheless is BORING.
the roles of the referes are to make sure there are no offsides call outs, get the ball when it goes out and call fouls. these aare the responsibilities to keep refs from being penelized they should makwe good calls and enforce the rules of the game.

o mr. kirk i forgot to put my name on the blog its the one after michael may's

THe roles and responsiblities of the refs are to call outs, get the ball when it goes out, and make sure everyone is playing fair and safe. I think the role of the referee is not needed becase people never listen to the refs. Also, when giving points to the refs the losing team always gives them 0-1 points. (Points given to refs are always unfair)
the roles and responsibilites of the Ref Squad is to call goal and broken rules. they can be graded fairly by everyones vote. I don't like the role of the referee because you dont move much.
Kevin gao
I think the refs should get the ball/puck when it gets out and actually call outs. Also i think teams should have to give the refs a 3 if they cannot think of a good reason they were not doing their job.
Julia Farkas-
The refs should call high sticks, fouls, out of bounds and any other rules that are broken during the game. When the refs call something, they have to make sure they make themselves heard. Sometimes in a game we just keep going and ignore a call. In the hockey unit the refs have to be really aware of high sticking, and have to retrieve the puck soon within the time it goes out. In some games, players have had to go to get the instead.
I totally left a comment already, but for some reason i cant find it up here, well, i guess i will just do a quick thing again.
I think refs should call outs and fouls, though it is hard to be a referee i think that everyone tries there hardest and that some people are graded unfairly. Everyone is doing a great job its just that some people should be more considerate of the refs and not be so harsh in grading
-Adam Kravitz
I'm leaving this pretty late, but at least i'll get it done.
Refs job is to call fouls, and they all do a terrible job, because they're too busy watching me and my graceful strides and movements. I'm a one man show, and ive accepted that now. i think if everyone just gave up on trying to win and started trying to have fun, that everybody would be jolly after the games, and we could all go to Chuckie Cheese after school (transportation provided by Mr. Kirk and his entourage, of course)
Being a ref totally sucks too, i like playing.
PS can we not do dance...and just play hockey?
Ty
The refs are supposed to split their team into two "squads". One of the "suads" must ref one game, and the other "squad" must ref the other game. They are responsible for reffing the game properly, calling out the calls, and making sure the game runss as smooth as possible. I honestly do not like the referee's role because I wuold rather play. Who wouldn't? I agree with you on not penalizing the refs for true, tough calls. Too often, refs are being penalized for these kind of calls.
I HAVE BLOGGED ;)
hey mr. kirk! um i checked edline like you said, and it says i didnt do blog #6 but my post is up here.
could you check for me? thankss!
and thanks for fixing that other blog too.
The roles and responsibilities of the refs is to call out fouls and whatever other rules the teacher has identified that are broken. I like experiencing what it is like to be a referee, although somtimes the players give you an unfair score because theyre angry about the calls that the refs made that might have prevented them from making a goal. Also when reffing, sometimes the players just ignore the ref, and its hard to stop the game to follow through with the call.
A way to keep the refs from being penalized is to have them describe what happened in detail so that the players understand what was done that was wrong.
