Period 2 Blog #4 Skill Related Fitness

This Blog is Due before Monday Sept. 22

There are several components to total physical fitness. We break them down into Health realted components of fitness, which we recently assessed with our fitness testing, and Skill related components of fitness.

Skill related components of fitness have less to do with your health and well being and more to do with your ability to perform well in sports and activities. There are six skill related components of fitness. They Are:

Agility: The ability to rapidly and accurately change the direction of the whole body in space.

Balance: The ability to maintain equilibrium while stationary or moving.

Coordination: The ability to use the senses and body parts in order to perform motor tasks smoothly and accurately.

Power: The amount of force a muscle can exert.

Reaction Time: The ability to respond quickly to stimuli.

Speed: The amount of time it takes the body to perform specific tasks.

Next week we will be testing our skill related fitness levels. For this weeks blog, I want you to pick the two skill related fitness components that you are the strongest in and tell me what sports or physical activities lend themselves to those skill related components.

Agility must be used in soccer to get to the ball faster as well as to keep the ball from defending players on the other team. Speed is needed in running, in order to finish faster.

I'm Jennifer Huang from period 2nd

The two skills I have strength in are speed and reaction time. I get speed from playing volleyball because when someone spikes, I have to quickly get to the ball to dig it up. Also, when a team player bumps or sets a ball out of bounds, I have to run to get it back in at times.
Then, I get reaction time from volleyball, as well. When someone bumps or sets a ball over, I have to react quickly to bump or set it back.

the reason why i think skill related fitness is important because you can teach us about this sport and we can get better at it and we can tryout for one of the school sports team.

I believe i am best with my coordination and reaction time. Coordination because i used to play softball up until last year and i still play field hockey and lacrosse. Reaction time because i am goalie for field hockey and lacrosse so i have to have a good reaction time to block the ball.

I play table tennis and tennis so I need good hand-eye coordination and reaction time for that or else I would miss the ball every time.
I also have good balance because I figure skate and in order to do that well, i must be able to balance on the ice while doing hard moves.

speed: track and field such as 100 meter dashes

reaction time: tennis, u hav to be ready for a forehand or backhand wen the ball comes at u

balance: gymnastics on the balancing pole

Personally, my favorite components are agility and reaction time.
Both help a lot in volleyball.

Reaction time helps me respond quickly when returning from offense to defense.
Agility helps me to get to the location i need to in time to save the ball.

Two skill related components of fitness that I find that I have are agility and balance. Those two can help me when i play sorts like football and lacrosse that require fast dodges. You need agility to execute a fast move and balance to maintain speed and ensure the effectiveness of your move.

Reaction time: Things like playing goalie on a soccer field or playing the infield on a softball field require quick reaction time and being able to quickly block away or catch balls.

Balance: Things like riding a bicycle or doing yoga build your balance. Balance is important when playing many different sports because it keeps you steady.

Casey Dowling:

Reaction time: Is used in all the sprinting events of track and field. for example, the 100m race and the 200m. the slightest hesitation to the starting gun in the short sprints can shave off precious seconds on your finish time. and even in the Olympics the differece between gold and bronze and be 2 tenths of a second!

Power: is also used in track and field. When you start a 100 m dash and you get down in blocks...alot of times people get ahead out of shear power through the blocks. half of the 100m dash is falling over with style. if you ever watch someone run the 100 and knows what they're doing. you push off the blocks and are running pretty much horizantally to the ground you have to use every ounce of power in your body if you want to benefit from the blocks as your main skill in the hundred.

so that's the two things i benefit in ..... :)

For basketball, you need agility to be able to defend people faster than you and stay in front of them whenever they dribble from side to side.

In soccer, the goalie needs to have a quick reaction time to be able to stop a goal.

reaction time - i am a soccer goalie, so i have good reflexes and i can stop the ball when the shot is close in.

agility - i also play basketball, so i need agility on defense when i am marking a player with the ball because i dont want them to switch directions and pass me.

Evelyn Ting just posted the thing about soccer and basketball by the way

Balance- soccer
reaction time-shuttle run or being a goalie in some sport

skills needed for sports such as boxing, teakwondo, karate would be
Agility- fake out,
Speed- enable you to quickly hit your target
reaction time- to dodge
and many more, other sports require you to use different skills

Two skills I have are good balance and coordination. I have good balance because i used to figure skate and because of gymnastics(specifically balance beam) I am well coordinated from playing tennis.

Two skills i have strength in are speed and agility. Speed is good to finish first in running in track and can be used to catch up to an enemy player who has posetion of the ball in a number of sports like soccer or basketball. Agility can come in handy in soccer when you have the ball and need to control it and steer it away from an enemy player

2 skills i have strength in is agility and Power. Agility cause when i play volleyball, i have to dig the ball when the apposing team spikes and get it to the setter. Power cause your serves in volleyball must be high enough to get the ball over the net, and strong enough to go over it.
:) VOLLEYBALL

I would use speed & agility to play soccer (keep the ball in control and move it down the feild) also I would use power to kick the ball and score on the goalie of the oposing team.

ps- is this all were supposed to do for a blog?

coordination helps me in lacrosse because i need to move the stick infront of the ball and reaction time also helps with lacrosse because the ball is usually moving at a fast pace so i need to move the stick in front of the ball quickly

I am best at agility and reaction time. For volleyball, you have to be able to get to the ball as quickly as you can and, at the same time, pass the ball exactly where you want it to go.

Jesse Pfeffer i use agiligy in soccer to kick the ball far and i also use agility to keep running . Also another strentgh i have is strength in soccer to win the ball.

I am probably best at reaction time and coordination. This is because to play soccer a person has to coordinate all his body parts and use his perifiral vision to pass and dribble. Soccer players also need reaction time because we need to go for the ball the second it is passed to us and make very quick decions.

I have good balance and reactin time.

When you do gymnastics you need balance because you have to balance yourslef in poses that you aren't used to.

You need quick response time in ping pong because in ping pong, the table is very small(compared to other sport) and ball flies very fast. So you have to know where the ball is coming and respond to it quickly.

Speed is used as a running back in football to beat people to the outside.

Reaction Time is crucial as a linebacker in football for reading the offense and reacting quickly.

Balance is really required in all sports. If you cannot stay balanced and not falling over, then it would be really hard to play any sport. It could be used in football and running.
Reaction time is necessary especially when defending in a sport like soccer. The goalies need have quick reactions and know where the ball is going. Also in volleyball, you need to react quickly to where the ball is.

The two skills I have strength in are power and reaction time. I use power to get rebounds from opposing players after the ball is shot in basketball. I use reaction time to block the shot of an opposing player so that he does not make the point in basketball.

Speed-I run cross country which helps with my overall speed

Reaction Time-I play tennis which helps my reaction time by hitting the ball to the right place at the right time

Agility and speed are important in football. Agility is important because you need to juke or get away from a defender quickly in order to prevent him from tackling you. Speed is important too because outrunning corners can help lead to points.

Reaction Time: a golie in soccer needs to have a quick reaction time so that they can catch the ball when its coming towards the goal.

Balance: needed for a gymnast to walk and do skills across the balance beam and an ice skater needs balance to be able to be stable while standing on ice with skates on.

Power is used in baseball because the batter needs power to hit the ball far and also the outfielder needs power to throw the ball far. Agility is used in soccer so the players have endurance to keep on running and not get tired for the whole game.

I am good at balance and coordination. I do horse back riding and in order to stay on the horse, you need a good sense of balance and coordination, otherwise, you would probably fall off and hit your head. Thankfully, that has never happened to me before.
