There are several components to total physical fitness. We break them down into Health realted components of fitness, which we recently assessed with our fitness testing, and Skill related components of fitness.
Skill related components of fitness have less to do with your health and well being and more to do with your ability to perform well in sports and activities. There are six skill related components of fitness. They Are:
Agility: The ability to rapidly and accurately change the direction of the whole body in space.
Balance: The ability to maintain equilibrium while stationary or moving.
Coordination: The ability to use the senses and body parts in order to perform motor tasks smoothly and accurately.
Power: The amount of force a muscle can exert.
Reaction Time: The ability to respond quickly to stimuli.
Speed: The amount of time it takes the body to perform specific tasks.
Next week we will be testing our skill related fitness levels. For this weeks blog, I want you to pick the two skill related fitness components that you are the strongest in and tell me what sports or physical activities lend themselves to those skill related components.

The two skills that I am strongest in are speed and reaction time. For speed, you will need that in basketball because if you are on a fast break, you need to get down the court as fast as you can. Reaction Time is also part of basketball because if there is a sloppy pass made, you need quick reflexes in order to steal the ball and force a turnover.

speed and power. speed is in for when im offense in soccer, and powers is when im the goalie in soccer. i have to run fast to make an opportunity to score, and i have to be powerful to throw the ball very far, or punt it really far.
Jason Vajda
Power and Reaction time, i play Baseball and use both for hitting as well as fielding.

The two skills that I am best at are Coordination and Reaction time. These are extremely important in my favorite sport, baseball, for multiple reasons, and even more so at my position, first base. Fielding, they are importand because I need to be able to react quickly to bad hops, fast line drives, bad throws, etc. Also, if I only had the reaction time, but couldn't control where my glove goes or where my foot is in comparison to the base, I would be a pretty poor first baseman. They are equally important in hitting for obvious reasons. I need to be able to react to a fastball to a change-up, or a curveball to a sinker or even is some cases a knuckleball. I also need to be able to control when I want to hit the ball and the batspeed and the angle and even just making contact.

My strongest points are agility, coordination, and extra point I have would be reaction time. I am a 2nd degree black belt in karate and I have learned that in sparring, reaction time and agility are biggies b/c it is important to throw counterattacks and defend your body at the same time. Coordination is also a biggie in my favorite spot: Baseball. In baseball, keeping your eye on the ball will ensure a good hit.

power and speed are my two best atributes because i swim a lot. Swimming requires both power, because you need to have a lot of muscle to contritbute to your team and swim in all the events that your coach requires you to, and also speed because w/ out speed swimming is basically pointless. the goal is to get a faster time, and that means being quick and speedy.

Agility and Coordination are my stronget atributes because in baseball, you need great cordination to pitch the ball accurately and agility is good for football because if your agile, you can juke out people to get open for a pass
Kevin Ross
Balance- i can ride a bike without falling over
reaction time- i am able to hit a fast pitch softball with a bat.

My strongest components are coordination and reaction time. Those skills developed from playing sports such as baseball and basketball. Both sports require hand-eye coordination.
-Randy Steinberg
Agility: baseball, base to base immediatly after hits
Coordination: baseball, hand eye coordination with hittinh and catching the ball
My strongest atributes are speed and power & I like things like soccer or basketball because of it.

Reaction time and coordination are probably my stronger points. Since I play volleyball, I need to be able to react quickly if my team mates can't get to the ball and i need to have coordination so that I won't trip over myself while trying to get the ball.
-Ruth Wang
Speed and power are my strongest skills. These are helpful for swimming. Speed means I can go fast and win, and power helps me because I can pull water harder which makes me go faster. Also, having more muscle helps your endurance, which is improtant in swimming.

i need coordination and fast reaction time in volleyball because i need to accurately hit the ball to the other team or the setter so that they may get it, and i need a fast reaction time to get the ball, and not let it fall to the ground.

Coordination and reaction time are my best attributes. Basketball, baseball, and football are some sports that require these attributes. For example, hand-eye coordination is needed when handling the ball.
-Abby Stauffer
Agility and Speed are my strengths. I play basketball and in basketball you need to be quick because you need to react fast if the ball is stolen and going down the other side of the court. Football, track and soccer also requires you be fast and agile.

Reaction Time-Playing sports like soccer and basketball require you to quickly react.
Power-Lifting for football makes me stronger.
Matt Wong
Power: Basketball conditioning (lifting weights)
Coordination: Baseball catcher and batting
These are my strongest points because I have been playing baseball and basketball longer then any other sport and have had much practice at them

Speed and cordination are my strongest components. For example when i play lacrosse i use my speed through out the whole game and i need alot of coordination to catch and throw.
reaction time and coordination are my best atributes in sports like tennis you need reaction time in tennis so that you put your raquet back soon enough to swing at the right time and you also need coodination to get around the ball and amke contact with it
Daniel Delgado
Probably coordination and reaction time or balance is my srongest points. As a former badminton player and current swimmer, my coordination and reactiontime are not bad. Also being a former black belt in Taekwondo, all three parts are more developed than others.
The two skills i am strogest at are power and speed and those two skills are what you need to play football which is my favorite sport. You need power to tackle or break tackles and speed is to run away or run towards someone.
