Period 7 General Physical Education March Madness

So the on-line brackets did not work out so well. I hope the bracket you filled out in class works out better for you. The winner will get lunch on me. For this weeks blog we are going to take a look at basketball. Basketball is our first invasion game, so we need to think about some new concepts. List for me one invasion game concept that I have presented in class and list what skills you could use to perform that concept. For example: attacking the basket is a concept that we will be learning and using the give and go is a skill that would help me attack the basket. Give me other examples.

One concept is to get open at all times. It will be easier for you to do if you keep moving around the court.

Another concept for basketball would be keeping the basketball in your possesion. This would be done by passing the ball to your team mates, whenever you thought that someone eles is close to getting the ball.

One invasion game concept we have learned so far in this baksetball unit is creating space. One way you can create space in a basketball game is by moving without the ball. You do this by, if you don't have the ball, then run away from your teammate who does have the ball and let him have some space for more room to shoot or drive.

BASKETBALL:
defending the basket,
you can do
ball
you
basket

so that you can try to get the ball from the opponent.

attacking the basket,
shoot inside the paint so you have more precision and it is easier to make the basket and pass it around a lot to make your opponents have to run around to follow the ball.

Some of the concepts for basketball that I know of are man to man defense, meaning that one person per person.

to attack the basket you can use picks and screens to help the person with the ball gain points.

One concept is to keep possession of the ball, and by using triple-threat and moving around, you can keep the ball in your team's hands and not your opponent's.

You taught us how to defend. We do this by guarding the player in the direction of the basket.

another concept is to be open at all times, and if you have the ball, keep passing and moving around to remain open.

passing the rock, movign around on the court, and driving for layups are all really good examples. a key concept and a factor i think we should work on as a class is dribbling and defense. hands up, feet spread in a defensive stance and BAMMM!!! steal and turn around behind the ark... SWISH!!!! crowd goes wild!!! game winner buzzer beater!!!!! MVP!!!1 yup.. thats stuff we need to work on and concepts that are important. BTW! this is on time, it is due monday right???

In Basketball it is important to move on offense when you don't have the ball in order to separate defenders and create space.

Moving without the ball. It helps create space and gives you open shots which are easier to make.

Invasion Game Concepts. . .
Space-something a team tries to create to open passing lanes and opportunities to shoot/score points
Passing-good use of teamwork; giving the ball to another member of the team so they can a)create more space b)take a shot at the basket or c)have the ball ;)
Offense-attacking the basket in order to score
Defense-stopping the offense from scoring and eventually rebounding the ball so then they can shoot

One concept is to move around and get open so your team members can pass to you. Around 70% of the game you are moving without the ball.

srry this is late mr. kirk i remembered it this morning so if you would accept it still that be great thx.
--Pick an rolls are a great way to get open for a pass or to let the person with the ball dribble in for a layup
--Passing then moving into the open space also works
