Period 8 Football Defensive Weaknesses
Last week we looked at attacking the cover three defense and designed plays to take advantage of the weakness in that defense. This week we will look at attacking the cover two. For your blog this week, list the weaknesses in both the cover two and cover three defenses. I will not post your responses until the end of the week.

The Defensive weaknesses of both cover two and cover three are the middle and the seems

Cover 3 Weaknesses- middle of the field between linebackers, short outside flats, and through the seems of the safeties
Cover 2 Weaknesses- outside flats, middle of the field between linebackers, between the seems of the defensive linemen
cover 2: middle and long flats open up late
cover 3: middle and seams flats open up eaarly

Cover 2 is heavily exposed to deep post patterns, seam routes, medium range hooks, flooding the zone. Because of how much ground the safety has to cover, deep passes can easily overload this zone.
Cover 3 weaknesses are somewhat still exposed to the deep ball. But 3 backs will drop back into coverage but leaves the middle a little more wide open. so short cross patterns and down and in routes might loosen up the cover 3 defense.

Cover 3 has weakness's in the seams so you can get a deep pass between the safeties.
Cover 2 is a run defense but can be passed by putting more than one reciver in each flat so the cornerback cant cover 2 recievers

A weakness in the Cover 2 is that it is a zone and all zone coverages have holes in it. It can sometimes lead to a big play by the offense.
A weakness in the Cover 3 is being able to complete a short pass play because the defensive backs are covering the long pass.
Cover Three Weakness: Slots
Cover Two Weakness: Deep-middle of the field, flats late.
Cover 2 weaknesses- Deep passes to the middle of the field. Send 2 quick receivers down the sidelines and the 2 safeties will drop back to help cover them, leaving a huge hole between the safeties in the middle of the field.
Cover 3 weaknesses- Short quick passes to the outside. 3 defensive backs drop back in coverage so CBs will most likely drop back, leaving holes short to the outside before the LBs can get there.

Cover 2: flats early, deep middle, multiple deep routes, skinny posts work very well

For cover 3, the seams outside the middle are hard to cover and so its easy to get by.
In cover 2, the deep is covered by only two people, so that is easy to get into.
